Azhar spoke to people who despaired at West’s antisemitic remarks, but we don’t need a new documentary to show us that: this is the star who tweeted that he was going “def con 3 on Jewish people” and declared during an appearance on conspiracy theorist Alex Jones’s InfoWars show: “I see good things about Hitler.” Then it was off to Los Angeles (driving around in sunny weather) to chat to one of West’s former collaborators and friends. Here, he talked to the mayor of Cody, Wyoming, where West bought a home (cue scenes of Azhar driving through the snow). There are more shots of Azhar’s face than of the documentary subject. His modus operandi is to visit a place, film himself driving around it, film himself talking a lot, and interview people peripheral to the story. Since then it seems that the BBC doesn’t quite know what to do with him. Azhar has made one decent film, the award-winning 2019 series Hometown: A Killing, about a police shooting in Huddersfield. Two years ago he made a documentary about Britney Spears which told us nothing new. Yet The Trouble with KanYe (BBC Two), a pointless documentary, went over this ground as if delivering pressing new information. ![]() If you have even a passing interest in the rapper turned designer, you will know these things. Kanye West has mental health problems, makes antisemitic comments and has announced that he would like to run for the US presidency in 2024.
